My name is Emmanuel Rahman, I am a VFX Artist originally from France. The reason I started a career in VFX was to prove to myself that I am able to be creative, as it wasn't my strength at the time. I would find it beneficial for me to start my career as Roto/Prep and then move on to Compositing once my fundamentals are solid enough, or find a role where I could practice all three at the same time.

What was your inspiration for pursuing a career in VFX?
My initial reason to pursue VFX was when I saw the cinematic for "Wrath of the Lichking" in World Of Warcraft - it just rung a bell for me, this time I knew that I wanted a career in the creative industry, and then it was after seeing Dune Part 1, I just couldn't shake the idea of working on something amazing that people would watch.
What hobbies do you have?
I like to play Rogue-Like games such as Risk Of Rain and Hades; it's always fun to have a slightly different way of playing I like the randomness of it.
I also like to run as it helps clear my mind whenever times get difficult, and lastly, Digital sculpting, as it was my first Art Medium and since then I just kept on practicing.
How would your peers describe you in 3 words?
Ambitious, Supportive and Determined
Do you have any industry experience? If so, please give a concise explanation of the experience.
I don't really have industry experience, however I had the chance to freelance for an independent game maker - I was allowed to create props for his game and be compensated for it.
I also worked on a project called 'InDepth', an independent project where I was able to be in charge of comping a shot. It allowed me to improve my comping skills and eye to detail, as well as unravel some of my weaknesses.
How would you describe your contribution to your group project?
In the project X-Terminate, my role was to help the team through organizing meetings and making sure that people were on the same page throughout the project; different ways that I did so was to write down tasks and assign deadlines to them, keep up with the progression of individuals and relaying the feedback received from the tutors to the team. I also was flexible, as I gave a helping hand in areas of productions that needed a little push, in this case, Pre-Vis, Look Dev, Rendering, Editing.
My main task was compositing, I took some creative liberty for the look of some shots, while still adhering to the original vision. I was also responsible for the colour grading of the final movie. In terms of colour grading, we took inspiration from 'Blade Runner' (1982), 'Interstellar' (2014), and Alien (1979). In terms of Pre-Vis, I helped out with the placement of the character and the camera placement.
What lessons did you learn from undertaking your project that you'll take with you into your career?
One lesson that I learnt from my projects that I will carry is that it is important to listen to the concerns of teammates and then addressing them as early as possible. Whether it is friction between teammates or someone being hurt by a comment, it is better to confront that problem earlier on before negative feelings fester, which will hinder the work in the future. Another one would be to give constructive criticism and while pointing areas of improvement still acknowledge the efforts and where things did work out well.
What would your ideal first role in the industry be?
My ideal first role in the industry would be doing compositing. I would love to be able to take ownership of a shot and make it look amazing. Taking elements that people have been working on and being one of the last stands between the production and the viewers.
What's an achievement from the past 3 years that you're proud of?
I am proud to have befriended so many great artists, and being able to get to know so many of them on a more personal level. Being able to hear about their origin and their inspiration always made me reconsider my viewpoint. In the same area, getting the recognition from so many of my fellow artists does also have to be one of my proudest achievements.
