My name is Kieron Lee. I'm a Junior FX Artist/3D Artist, deeply passionate about details in visual effects that add to the realism and narrative depth of scenes. Through watching lots of Films and TV, I've gained a fascination in understanding how I can immerse the viewer in every shot I work on. I strive to openly communicate my feelings and I see criticism as a way to learn and get better at what I do. Which is helpful for a studio environment because I believe I can adapt to new pipelines and work well with new teams.

What was your inspiration for pursuing a career in VFX?
I've always watched films since being a kid, such as Harry Potter, Spiderman, the MCU and Star Wars. I tried out motion graphic design early on, which was fun, but made me realise I love the narrative and visual storytelling aspect of the work more. Motion graphics design lacked this for me and movies felt like they invoked more emotions for the viewer. This led me to learning and creating my own visual effects in Blender, which I enjoyed thoroughly. This made me want to search for degrees which could aid me in pursuing this career properly. Escape studios was the best option for me to learn and improve!
What hobbies do you have?
Every couple of weeks I play football with mates from Escape; we play a friendly 7-aside game against each other in London. I used to compete in athletics events, such as the 800m. However, I enjoy running more during the summer, because it helps me relax after work. When the weather's bad during the winter, I go to the gym. It helps me have a nice break from work and time to chill out. Every so often I go bouldering with my friends which adds some variety as the gym and running can sometimes be a bit repetitive on your own.
How would your peers describe you in 3 words?
Driven, easy-going, hard-working
Do you have any industry experience? If so, please give a concise explanation of the experience.
I volunteered for a week of work experience at Jump Design and Direction. I was a runner there to carry out logo creation tasks, image processing, and general runner tasks. This helped me gain proper knowledge of what jobs in motion graphics are like in the industry.
How would you describe your contribution to your group project?
In the project 'D.A.N.S.', my role was 3D/Texture Artist; I co-organised a workflow on creating the hero robot asset to be rigged and animated. Textured the main robot asset and organised the UVs that had a detailed resolution for 4k renders. Modelled the hands of the robot. Textured the 'D.A.N.S.' head and torso rubbish bin version of the asset and modelled and textured the wooden broom.
What lessons did you learn from undertaking your project that you'll take with you into your career?
From this project, I learned how to be more relaxed under pressure. I overworked last project and I ended up getting quite burnt out and stressed. After this, I focused on taking breaks when I needed them and having a good work life balance. This helped me stay way more relaxed during this project especially having other projects and work on the side. And made me do work more efficiently and happily at the same time!
What would your ideal first role in the industry be?
My ideal first role in the industry would be an FX Artist. There's so much to learn and such a wide variety of types of effects that I'd love to dive into. Another possibility is to become a 3D/Texturing Artist. I believe I'm very strong at taking references and using them to create realistic assets. I could develop my skills even further by learning from industry experts to be more efficient and keep improving!
What's an achievement from the past 3 years that you're proud of?
In 2023, I trained around 9 months to get a really good 800m time. I set a goal of sub 2 minutes. I went to training at the StoneX Stadium track every week with the Barnet and Shaftesbury running club. My sister went running with me too a couple of times a week as she was training for a similar event. I ended up not being able to race as I got ill and certain circumstances stopped me from finishing a race. However I got my time down in training to a time of 2:08. It took a lot of hard work, dedication and patience to get where I was. I'm very proud to this day of how much I worked on it and I met a lot of amazing people while reaching my goal!
