My name is Lee Delos Angeles and I am a 3D VFX student. I am very passionate about VFX as it is a great way to bring your imaginations into reality. Though I'm very confident at 3D modelling props, but the career I really want to get into is Character Design. My true passion is to make the world a bit more interesting by creating and breathing life into fantastical characters and creatures for everyone to see.

What was your inspiration for pursuing a career in VFX?

I was inspired by old movies like the Lord of the Rings trilogy and Guillermo del Toro films as a kid since they all have great creature and character designs.

What hobbies do you have?

In my spare time, I like to do something called "world building" where you create your own entire world in any genre you like. This helps me come up with new ideas which I then try and create in any format whether if it's a 3D model or a digital illustration and even just writing. I've also been watching films for as long as I can remember and like to watch all kinds for artistic inspirations. I've also recently picked up photography to add in my collection of hobbies, specifically nature photography.

How would your peers describe you in 3 words?

Creative, Helpful and Dedicated

Do you have any industry experience? If so, please give a concise explanation of the experience.

I volunteered to work for a director called "Max Ward" whilst I was in college. I animated a character for a music video "Triangles" by Tendertwin, which is about an alien trying to find their way back home. It was also during the pandemic, therefore communication was key whilst working on the project. I talked closely and consistently with the director to achieve the desired outcome for the scene that I was animating.

How would you describe your contribution to your group project?

In the last project I worked on ,"D.A.N.S", we needed to create a robot that will act as the main character of the short film. Naturally, I stepped up as character design is my passion. I and another person in the group worked on the concept art, bringing our ideas together and deciding what works and what we could change. After we were done, the 3D Artists (including myself) worked closely with the concept art to achieve the desired outcome in the end.

What lessons did you learn from undertaking your project that you'll take with you into your career?

One important lesson I learnt during the project that I will be taking with me into my future career, and also in other aspects of life, is that to never underestimate the power of good communication. When working in a group, whether if it's big or small, communication and teamwork is very important as it allows the team to keep track of the strengths and weaknesses the group currently has. For example, the group might be struggling on one part of the project and, by knowing this, they can prioritize and decide what to do next.

What would your ideal first role in the industry be?

My ideal first role in the industry would be a 3D Prop Artist for any company in the industry. I think it will be a great way to get a starting foothold in the industry, because it will allow you to work on various different types of projects, which you can then use in a showreel. Another reason to why it's my ideal first role is because each company has their own pipeline and how they do things. Being a prop artist will help you get situated in the company and adapt accordingly.

What's an achievement from the past 3 years that you're proud of?

An achievement that I'm most proud of is the group projects I worked on, mainly the one called "Outpatient". This project was quite ambitious, therefore my team had to work and communicate well together in order to achieve the desired outcome. It took a lot of dedication in order to complete the assets that us 3D Artists were assigned, as we had to try our best to make it look as photo realistic as possible. In the end, we won the International Gold Awards for the project which makes it the achievement I'm most proud of.
