My name is Maria, I am a Brazilian 3D Modeling and Texturing Artist with a long-term goal of becoming a 3D Generalist. Moving to different countries and being exposed to various cultures from a young age made me develop a love for learning about people's different worldviews. This sparked my interest in storytelling and filmmaking. I am passionate about Visual Effects, as it involves teamwork and has a perfect mix of artistic and technical aspects that I find engaging and motivating.

What was your inspiration for pursuing a career in VFX?

My upbringing was very focused on academics, however, moving to different countries and being exposed to various cultures from a young age made me develop a love for learning about people's different worldviews. This sparked my interest in storytelling and film-making. I also grew up watching Star Wars and superhero movies with my father; that was the main interest we had in common, so they have always had a special place in my heart.

What hobbies do you have?

I enjoy anything that involves physical activity. I danced ballet from a very young age until I was seventeen, then moved on to CrossFit, but three years ago I decided to just go to the gym and focus more on powerlifting and bodybuilding. I also sometimes go bouldering with my friends. Not only that, but I also play bass guitar and enjoy making art, anything from digital art to oil paintings.

How would your peers describe you in 3 words?

Cheerful, innovative, and meticulous

Do you have any industry experience? If so, please give a concise explanation of the experience.

I do not have industry experience yet.

How would you describe your contribution to your group project?

In the project "X-Terminate" I was the director and worked as a 3D modelling and texture artist. As the director, I focused on making sure everyone on the team was on the same page about the visual language and I came up with different solutions to the issues that showed up throughout the project. As a 3D modelling and texture artist I worked with Maye Liu, our rigging artist, to create the gecko. Overall, I kept the team's enthusiasm high and offered my teammates a helping hand whenever they needed it.

What lessons did you learn from undertaking your project that you'll take with you into your career?

One lesson that I will carry with me into future projects is to do as much work as possible until the deadline and address feedback, but not get too hung up on making everything look perfect. When working on a project, after looking at the same screen for a long time, it is easy to get stuck making minimal adjustments to fix issues that only you can see.

What would your ideal first role in the industry be?

Although I plan on continuing to expand my knowledge to become a 3D generalist, I would love to start as a 3D modelling or texturing artist in any size production house, as I feel the most confident in these skills and know I can deliver high-quality work in these areas.

What's an achievement from the past 3 years that you're proud of?

I am quite proud of the latest project I have worked on, "X-Terminate", which I directed and worked on as a 3D modelling and texturing artist. I think it shows great improvement from the previous project, "Sea Of Madness", which I also directed and worked on as a 3D modelling and texturing artist. It is very rewarding to see clear improvement in both my technical and soft skills and how that reflects on the project.
