I'm Raneen, and my journey in VFX started as a self-taught artist, exploring Adobe software and following various tutorials. This path led me to Escape Studios, where I've been honing my skills, particularly in Nuke, specialising in compositing. VFX gives the ability to craft new worlds from pure imagination, offering audiences an escape through movies and TV shows. I'm eager to be a part of that creative process. I aim to secure a roto/paint position to further develop my skills and learn from industry professionals.

Do you have any industry experience? If so, please give a concise explanation of the experience.
During my first year, I gained valuable experience as a studio assistant, primarily supporting the compositing module. Additionally, I seized the opportunity to collaborate on external projects affiliated with Escape Studios and Industrial Light and Magic, further expanding my practical skills and industry exposure.
How would you describe your contribution to your group project?
In the "D.A.N.S." project, I was a compositor, working closely with our 2D team and lead. We brought the story of our dancing robot to life, focusing on both its visual evolution and the storyline. My job was to integrate our robot in various shots while making sure the overall look matched the narrative as it unfolded.
What lessons did you learn from undertaking your project that you'll take with you into your career?
From this project and others at Escape, I've learned how crucial it is to take feedback onboard efficiently and to collaborate smoothly within a team. Being open to feedback helped me adapt and enhance my work quickly, ensuring we met our goals effectively. Handling multiple shots also taught me to be versatile and agile, which was key to the project's success.
What would your ideal first role in the industry be?
I'm excited to begin my career as a roto/prep artist, as it offers a great opportunity to build my technical skills in a real-world setting. Starting here allows me to learn the ropes and get hands-on experience in VFX production. My goal is to develop a strong foundation in roto and prep work, setting the stage for advancement to a junior compositing role. This path perfectly aligns with my ambitions to grow and succeed in the world of visual effects.
What's an achievement from the past 3 years that you're proud of?
An achievement I'm proud of from the past three years is receiving two awards for our first-term group project, "Outpatient." It was a challenging project, but collaborating with such a wonderful team made it a rewarding experience. Being recognised for our hard work reinforced the value of teamwork and dedication.
