How would your peers describe you in 3 words?

Adventerous, Meticulous, Tolerant

Do you have any industry experience? If so, please give a concise explanation of the experience.

For a couple of months I worked for a mental heath company as the sole video editor and creator at some points. Whilst this is not directly related to the VFX industry, it taught me a lot of skills for working towards deadlines and getting the work done for the price that I was giving to the company.

How would you describe your contribution to your group project?

In the project, X-Terminate, my role was VFX supervisor. This role meant that I took upon the task to ensure a smooth pipeline between 2D, 3D and Animation. For a lot of us, this was the first time working with animation in this type of workflow. I have thoroughly enjoyed the challenge and I believe that it has helped my understanding between all of the 3D and 2D packages so much. As the VFX Supervisor I have also become the main port of call for any problems or issues through the project as well, this has meant that I have needed to figure out why small bugs were appearing or workarounds on other certain parts of the project.

What lessons did you learn from undertaking your project that you'll take with you into your career?

A really important lesson I have learned from this project, that I will take into my career forwards, is to use your teamates and their skills to all of each others advantages. We have so many talented people working on this project and with all of those people doing what they love to do and are best at doing, the project was able to be the best it could be in the timespan. Keeping everyone happy and motivated to do what they are doing is so important, even to yourself and this is something I will take with me forward. The ability to switch up what you are doing, for example if you were having an issue with a shot for a while, I have learned to work on another shot and then come back to the other one, and you will have a fresh mind again.

What would your ideal first role in the industry be?

I would love to start off as an FX Junior in any sized production house. My love for Houdini has grown over the past year with the larger scale water simulations that I have been doing. I would love to start in this role because it would allow me to learn from some of the best Houdini artists and take in all of their knowledge and expertise. This would help grow my confidence with this rollercoaster of a 3D program and that is invaluble.

What's an achievement from the past 3 years that you're proud of?

For our first VFX project of this year, I undertook a huge scale water simulation with the HP Lovecraft character Cthulhu. This was a mega simulation, with the WW cache sitting at about 4TB and the main water tank at almost 250m wide. The fact that I was able to get this completed was amazing and I'm still super happy with the result of this simulation.
