What was your inspiration for pursuing a career in Animation?
The inspiration for creating animations came from my childhood experience of making Lego stop-motion films. As a teenager, I started creating Minecraft animations in Cinema4D, which eventually led to a passion for 3D animation. I took short courses in Blender and was able to make films in less than two weeks. My love for cartoons as a child had a lasting impact on me.
What hobbies do you have?
Most of the animation books I collect are related to films or TV shows I have watched throughout the years, sharing the process from art to animation. I also really like collecting film posters as memorabilia for some of the animated films I have seen throughout the years. A recent hobby I have picked up is collecting animation cell replicas. While being mostly a 3D animator I am really interested in what goes into 2D traditional animation.
How would your peers describe you in 3 words?
Diligent, versatile, kind
Do you have any industry experience? If so, please give a concise explanation of the experience.
In 2019 & 2021, I took part in a 3D animation course called 3Dami, where we produced a Pixar-like short film within 11 days. In 2020 I worked on a student short film at the BFI Academy Residential. In 2022, I returned to 3Dami as a paid executive producer. Lastly, I have recently volunteered as a student helper at the BAA (British Animation Awards). I have taken these opportunities as a way to meet people from the industry.
How would you describe your contribution to your group project?
In Father's Blade, I was responsible for animation, editing, sound design and voice acting. I usually take on the role of editing and sound design in each project as it is my passion to not only make good animation but to make impactful moments land with effective sound design. I usually enjoy taking on the role of Lead Animator. With this project, I wanted to step back and focus on the quality of my shots, critiquing my work and adapting to feedback presented by peers and tutors.
What lessons did you learn from undertaking your project that you'll take with you into your career?
One lesson I take from this project is to never doubt myself in the face of uncertainty. I doubted my abilities a few times over this project. However, after tackling the obstacle, I would always overcome it. I have always been happy to receive feedback and criticism for my work, and I strive to better the work I have produced.
What would your ideal first role in the industry be?
I'm interested in starting my career as a Junior Character Animator in a production studio. However, I am also open to working in roles such as 3D Generalist, Editor or Crowd Animator, as I believe they can offer me valuable learning experiences. I am passionate about this field and willing to learn new software and techniques.
What's an achievement from the past 3 years that you're proud of?
I am proud of our group, Airlock Animation, for receiving four awards for our previous project, Infestation. It is the first project that we have all been proud of. I believe it was an incredible learning experience for all of us. Everyone played a crucial role in the success of the project, and it was a truly fun experience to be a part of. This project is something we will cherish for a long time.
