What was your inspiration for pursuing a career in Animation?

The concept of bringing life to characters through movement has always fascinated me. As a child, I knew every game or show I watched had a team of talented animators who breathed life and personality into the characters I adored. It inspired me to want to do the same.

What hobbies do you have?

I love traditional illustration, 3D sculpting and 3D animation. I feel like these pass times really challenge me and encourage me to grow as an artist.

How would your peers describe you in 3 words?

Diligent, Adaptable, Friendly

Do you have any industry experience? If so, please give a concise explanation of the experience.

Although I haven't had any experience working in the industry directly, I feel the skills I have acquired leading team projects have given me valuable insight into how the industry will be. Such skills include team project management, excellent communication skills, experience working with industry-standard software, and substantial problem-solving capability. I have also been in contact with people from the industry via LinkedIn and in-person seminars. I believe these interactions provided me with a well-founded idea of what is expected of me once I enter the industry.

How would you describe your contribution to your group project?

My role in the team project spanned across multiple areas of production. I had the responsibility of creating the early visualisation via storyboarding, 2D concept art and cinematography. Since our film is a Samurai revenge story inspired by vintage Japanese cinema, we wanted to be sure that was reflected in our project with striking visuals. So I spent a considerable amount of time to help achieve this effect with the rest of the pre-production team. My most paramount role, however, was Lead Animator. I worked closely with the rest of the team, ensuring quality and consistency across the animation, providing plentiful feedback and assistance, as well as managing my shots as an animator. I was so keen on working on this project that I offered to help with other aspects like voice acting and 2D graphics.

What lessons did you learn from undertaking your project that you'll take with you into your career?

The biggest lesson I took away from this project was not to be precious about my work. In the early stages of my animations, I recognized it was not what we were going for. Being able to analyze my work critically not only helped greatly improve my work; it also led to the discovery of new ways to animate and problem-solve.

What would your ideal first role in the industry be?

I would love nothing more than to enter the industry as a Junior Animator. An opportunity like that would give me the chance to experience working in the industry amongst fellow talented artists I look up to and respect. This role would give me a chance to further strengthen my skills and abilities in animation, hopefully leading to potential positions down the road in my career like Lead Animator.

What's an achievement from the past 3 years that you're proud of?

After publishing our previous project, "Infestation", in early 2024, we received two best of awards from two separate institutions. Our team was honoured with "Best Micro Short" at the Indo Malaysia International Film Festival and "Best Sci-Fi" at the 1st Films Fest. It has been my greatest achievement recently as I worked on the writing, storyboarding, concept art and animation for "Infestation".
