Hello! My name is Brayan and I'm an animator with a specialism in Storyboarding and Concept art! I've had a fascination with animation for years, and started to draw and create tons of characters with the goal of (hopefully!) seeing them in a show someday! Seeing my characters come to life and being part of some cartoon show would be my biggest dream. So, I'd like to try entering the pre-production stage as a storyboarder or character designer!

What was your inspiration for pursuing a career in Animation?
I have two main inspirations that made me choose animation. One was video games, as I grew up with a lot of Nintendo games, especially Super Mario Galaxy, which became my favourite game. Furthermore, I was powered by the many cartoons and anime I watched as a kid, making me really want to work on making those cartoons. Later on, during college, I met a 2D Animator online and I loved the style of animations he made - watching them really settled me into wanting to pursue animation as a career and I aim towards one day collaborate with him and show how much he inspired me to do this.
What hobbies do you have?
I usually dive into drawing and character design. I love to travel, explore, and find new places or new cultures and views, all of which inspire me. I enjoy exploring the art of characters and environments I like from shows or games that I've played for inspiration and use them as references for my art. I also aim to meet new people, and artists to expand my links around by spending time with said people, sharing art and volunteering for the community!
How would your peers describe you in 3 words?
Has Potential, Dedicated, Talkative
Do you have any industry experience? If so, please give a concise explanation of the experience.
I haven't had any particular experience working within the industry. However, I have volunteering jobs that have helped me develop my soft skills (mainly public speaking and organisation of projects, among other people-focused attributes.) On the other hand, I have attended seminars and a few talks, including the ones offered by Escape, to see people in the industry and plan to go to more networking events in the future to further my knowledge and network.
How would you describe your contribution to your group project?
In the project, "VOID" i took on the roles of Rigger and Animator. Assigned to animate the cat and rig the main character along with the Rig lead since i was someone who's had experince in rigging before. I particularly loved the project being inspired by "Backwater Gospel" which made the project have a lot of 2D elements giving a very handrawn feel. Furthermore, motivating me to do my best at my roles. I made sure the girl had as much control as posible for the animators adding a lot of controls to freely expressively move her body.
What lessons did you learn from undertaking your project that you'll take with you into your career?
Over the past 2 projects, I've learnt plenty of things. One thing I will mention is that this was my first time working on a group project, and as it was my first group project, this meant that it was my first time working within a pipeline structure. However, this has helped me understand, in a practical sense, what I should expect once I go into the industry. Taking part in my first project, seeing how my group organises and communicates everything and how it all comes together gives me the expectations of the environment I should expect.
What would your ideal first role in the industry be?
My ideal first role in the industry would be working in any parts of pre-production, preferably storyboarding! Then making my way into Character Design or Generalist. This would allow me to meet more people in pre-production and network with them while allowing me to improve my drawing and storyboarding skills further. On the other hand, if I end up as a Generalist, I'll be able to expand further than my current skill set making me more useful to a project.
What's an achievement from the past 3 years that you're proud of?
My biggest challenge and achievement of last year was the exchange for 2nd year. I was not ready for the learning curve the education system in Spain would be. I was suddenly hit with 5 times the work I am accustomed to. I was taking 5 classes, and learning different skills with work due every day for the semester. All things considered, I ended up improving my time management for all my deadlines, but another reward is learning so much more than I have in a long time about skills other than just animation.
