Hello, I’m Marc Montebon and I am currently a 3D Animation student at Escape Studios. Being creative and artistic is a fundamental part of my identity. The transition from traditional mediums, such as pencil and paper, to 3D Animation has presented new challenges, but I find this transition rewarding and enjoyable. My aspiration is to have a career in Character Animation, this would hopefully allow me to show my skills and passion in the industry.

What was your inspiration for pursuing a career in Animation?
When I was young I was fascinated by the creative storytelling and art styles in movies and series. More specifically, Studio Ghibli left an unforgettable impression on me - the creativity and masterful storytelling they produced is what always amazed me. The imagination of creating different worlds and developing characters which the audience rooted for in their journey somewhat inspired me to want to pursue a career in the Animation industry. As I grew up, I sought out opportunities to push my creative boundaries and that brought me to Animation as it was a new medium for me, the idea of bringing my work to life interested me and the new challenges that came along with it became very rewarding when seeing the finished product.
What hobbies do you have?
A hobby that I have is singing, it’s my favourite hobby as it allows me to express myself. I have always been surrounded by music within my family and community, singing brings us all together and it brings me a lot of joy.
How would your peers describe you in 3 words?
Efficient, sociable, reliable
Do you have any industry experience? If so, please give a concise explanation of the experience.
Whilst I haven’t had any direct experience working within the industry, I have attended a variety of talks from members of the industry and have also had the opportunity to attend social events. More specifically, I attended a social event called ‘Show Your Own Animation’ which gave me the chance to personally show my work to members of the industry and be given professional feedback on my work to develop and refine my skills, this also gave me a better understanding on what is required of me when applying to jobs in the future.
How would you describe your contribution to your group project?
In the project, ‘Game Heist’ my main role was Animator, however, to support the team, I also worked as a Storyboard Artist and worked on the Animatic and Previs. I worked with the Director and other team members to figure out what we wanted to show in each scene, and what would help make the storyline more engaging for the audience. I helped find references from movies to develop the camera angles, movement and style to present our short film in a professional standard.
What lessons did you learn from undertaking your project that you'll take with you into your career?
One main lesson I learnt that I will carry with me into future projects is to concentrate on constructive feedback and use it effectively with my work. I fully understand that feedback from my peers and tutors is important, however, as we are given a lot of opinions on our work it can be difficult to focus on every issue at once. I make sure that, when I’m given constructive feedback, I organise the feedback based on priority to make my workflow more efficient so I’m using my peer's and tutors' critiques more effectively and producing better work.
What would your ideal first role in the industry be?
My ideal first role in the industry would be a 3D Animator. I would love to be able to work in a professional environment and use the opportunity to enhance my skills in Animation. It would be fulfilling to work on projects that allow me to exercise my creativity and passion for bringing characters and stories to life, while collaborating with talented individuals in a dynamic and inspiring setting.
What's an achievement from the past 3 years that you're proud of?
My biggest achievement at Escape Studios is being a supportive and committed team member. A prime example of this is my involvement in the 'Ghosting' short film project, where I took on multiple roles such as Producer, Unreal Lead, Lighting Artist, and more to support the team and ensure we delivered the final product before the tight deadline. Despite the numerous challenges, we problem solved and we're very organised, focusing on time management and quality. Overall, I learnt many things throughout the project which have enhanced my skills as a team player.
