What was your inspiration for pursuing a career in Animation?
Initially, my aspiration was to become a Video Editor. However, with the emergence of experimental films like 'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse', my fascination shifted towards creating innovative animations. Now, I'm motivated to craft my own unique animations to share with the world.
What hobbies do you have?
When I'm not animating, you'll often find me playing video games. I enjoy the challenges and the thrill of diving into exciting stories and adventures they offer. Whether I'm strategizing in multiplayer games, solving puzzles, or just enjoying the sights and sounds, gaming keeps me thinking. I also like trying new things, as it helps me grow my skills and have new experiences.
How would your peers describe you in 3 words?
Hard-working, Reflective and Level-headed
Do you have any industry experience? If so, please give a concise explanation of the experience.
I've attended workshops and talks by professionals in animation. These experiences have given me a solid understanding of the industry's expectations. The most valuable insight came from a 15-minute conversation with a Senior Animator during my visit to Blue Zoo Studios, where I had the opportunity to ask questions first-hand.
How would you describe your contribution to your group project?
In the project 'X-Terminate', I worked as a Character Animator alongside a Creature Animator on a tough 12-second shot. It was challenging because it was my first time collaborating on a shot. I had to plan carefully and couldn't make big changes.
What lessons did you learn from undertaking your project that you'll take with you into your career?
One lesson that I will carry with me into future projects is when issues arise, it is important to communicate with the producers. They keep the team together and not informing them will indirectly hurt the team and could cause a domino effect. Overall, communication is key in any project, as a solution to your problem could just be a conversation away.
What would your ideal first role in the industry be?
I aim to begin my career as a Junior 3D Character Animator. This position offers the opportunity to ease into the industry, familiarise myself with professional workflows and schedules, and gradually build confidence in my skills and abilities.
What's an achievement from the past 3 years that you're proud of?
In our last project, a few of my classmates and I collaborated on making a short animated film titled 'When Life Gives You Lemons', which won the 'Best Super Short' award at the Future of Film Awards. I'm proud of this accomplishment because it reflects the dedication and effort we poured into our work, all of which were acknowledged and valued. It was a pleasant experience working with this team; we had excellent communication, and chemistry, and tackled all challenges together.
