I have a massive passion for working in teams and collaborative environments; creating ideas and then executing them successfully has been some of the most rewarding experiences I have had in my animation journey. What was your inspiration for pursuing a career in Animation?
After a lifelong love of film and storytelling, I have always wanted to create my own cinematic moments. Animation allows me to bring to life performances and sequences from my imagination to reality using the techniques I have learned from this passion.
What hobbies do you have?
For a long time now, my greatest passion has been films, the art of cinema and its techniques have always intrigued me, with the classics being particular favourites of mine such as the iconic 'Good, the Bad and the Ugly.' Another huge aspect of my life is staying fit and active, I spend an almost unhealthy amount of time at the gym trying to constantly improve physically, which has helped me feel more and more confident in day-to-day life!
How would your peers describe you in 3 words?
Energetic, Focussed, Team Player
Do you have any industry experience? If so, please give a concise explanation of the experience.
As of right now, my experience in the industry is very limited, although I have had lengthy talks with professionals and consistent reviews of my work I am yet to test myself professionally. However, I feel I am at a stage where I am confident in my skills and excited to bring what I have learned into a studio environment.
How would you describe your contribution to your group project?
In this project, I had two roles as a Producer and as an Animator. As a Producer, I had many responsibilities behind the scenes to help keep the pipeline moving. These included; creating a detailed schedule for the project to follow, delegating tasks and roles between the team, relaying feedback from our director and tutors, managing our workflow to hit our set deadlines and admin duties such as obtaining Public Liability Insurance and finding a composer to produce an original score. As an Animator, my responsibility was the dance sequence, using our reference and lots of footage from ballroom dances, I was able to create a sequence that had the graceful movements and drama we were looking for.
What lessons did you learn from undertaking your project that you'll take with you into your career?
One of the key lessons that I will take from this project is to not be afraid of trying something new. Taking on the Producer role, which I had never done before, as well as in a VFX project when I previously only had experience in animation, was incredibly daunting. I had to understand the steps in the VFX pipeline and become adept at Shotgrid, which I had never used before. However, while I was hesitant to take on these new challenges, I am incredibly thankful I did as it has helped me improve massively in my overall knowledge.
What would your ideal first role in the industry be?
Getting into the industry is a big step for me that I can’t wait to jump into. I would love the opportunity to take my skills from my years of study and utilise them in any type of animation role working for an established studio, while also developing them to develop more in my craft.
What's an achievement from the past 3 years that you're proud of?
When I look back over the past three years of my studies, the thing I am most proud of is my improvement. Starting from 0 and slowly progressing to where I can make animations that have gone on to win awards at competitions has been especially rewarding.
