What was your inspiration for pursuing a career in Animation?
I always saw many fan made animations based on the things I love, like games on YouTube; one of which is something one of my best friends made called Fireteam Expendable. I always wanted to make something of my own to express my love and passion for games and animation, as well as giving people something to smile at and walk away feeling happy. 3 years ago, when I found out there was a place where I can learn how to become an animator from experts in the industry, that was when I made my final decision to pursue a career in animation.
What hobbies do you have?
I like to play video games and watch films in my spare time as I find them very enjoyable and I'm always invested in their worlds and the stories they have. I also like to watch my favourite content creators and Vtubers on YouTube, as they always make me very happy and cheer me up whenever I feel down. They make the most enjoyable content on the platform. They also inspire me to work harder towards my dreams and give me ideas for future animation projects
How would your peers describe you in 3 words?
Hardworking, friendly and determined
Do you have any industry experience? If so, please give a concise explanation of the experience.
While I haven't had direct experience working within the industry, Escape Studios taught me what working on an animation project in the industry is like. I have also attended talks from members of the industry, which has given me a better understanding of what it's like to work in an animation studio.
How would you describe your contribution to your group project?
In the project, D.A.N.S, my role was to animate one of the scenes. Since the project involved a robot, we had to get many references for humanoid robotic movements, which challenged me to animate differently. My task was to animate the scene where the robot opens the bin to see what the noise was inside, since my shot wasn't complex and the robot was more like a human for the most part I animated like I did normally, but added robotic movements to give it the robot character.
What lessons did you learn from undertaking your project that you'll take with you into your career?
One lesson I have learned is that teamwork makes the dream work. What I mean by this is that we should all communicate with one another to give each other constructive criticism and provide help and support, should we need it. Knowing that will make any project fun and should not run into any problems. It will also allow us to get to know each other better which is needed since the industry heavily requires good teamwork with a full team of friendly talented people.
What would your ideal first role in the industry be?
I would love to start as a Junior 3D Animator, who specialises in character animation in any animation studio. I wish to start as a 3D Junior Animator because, while I have learned how to animate, there are many things I wish to learn and improve on. I think being in the junior role would be fitting for me as I am just stepping into the animation industry. I also think it would give me opportunities to be involved in projects that can help me strengthen my skills as an animator and help me complete new and exciting tasks.
What's an achievement from the past 3 years that you're proud of?
While it's not related to animation, from October 2023 to February 2024, I was part of a huge fan project that involved making a Visual Novel for Hakos Baelz's birthday, someone who I and many others look up to. It took a lot of time, problem-solving, team management and hard work. During that time, I learned a lot about how important teamwork really is, and how to truly use time management, and it gave me a lot of insight as to how to co-manage a project. I was very proud of the project we made as we made it to show our love and appreciation to Baelz and I got to know some people in the project a bit more too.
