Hi there, my name is Alissa. I have been playing video games since I was old enough to know how to work a computer. I was always fascinated by how incredible the background designs were and always wondered if I could learn how to do that.
I have grown a passion for learning how to make those environments I’ve seen in every game I’ve played. The more I create, set dress, and build, the more I fall in love with Game Art. I would love to be a 3D Artist or Environment Artist.

What was your inspiration for pursuing a career in Game Art?

Growing up playing games that had such detailed environments, such insane imagery and amazing storytelling. I have always been drawn to how the environment could have been made in every game I played. The environment sets the scene of the game, the genre and the mood. I want to be able to do that in my work.

What hobbies do you have?

I'm all about diving into the juicy dramas and wild antics of crime shows and reality TV. When I'm not glued to the screen, you can bet I'm lost in the world of gaming. Right now, Last Epoch has got me hooked, but I'm counting down the days until Diablo 4 season 4 kicks off! These hobbies aren't just about killing time—they're like a mental gym session, keeping my problem-solving skills sharp, and giving my creativity a serious workout.

How would your peers describe you in 3 words?

Dedicated, Reliable, Communicative

Do you have any industry experience? If so, please give a concise explanation of the experience.

I took part in a 2-Month winter internship with a charity called Humanitarian Operations, where I joined a team full of multidisciplinary people to create an educational game for children. Reporting to the Production Manager, I created ideas for the game that I developed into 3D assets using 3DS Max.

How would you describe your contribution to your group project?

In the project, Nomad’s Rest, my role was to be an Environment Artist. The project’s art style took a lot of inspiration from 'Overwatch 2', which I was already experienced with from a previous project. I used that knowledge to create hand painted style textures that resemble Overwatch for the assets I made.

What lessons did you learn from undertaking your project that you'll take with you into your career?

One lesson I will carry with me into future projects, and my career as a whole, is ‘make stricter deadlines and practice better scheduling’. What I mean by this is that I want to be able to schedule tasks efficiently and set deadlines for myself. When balancing multiple tasks, I have been working with a friend to schedule a time allowance for each task on each available day to make sure the task is completed in an appropriate timeframe. This scheduling has helped me work on each task in the same day which helps each task progress at the same speed instead of setting one task per day. Setting deadlines for myself increases my drive to complete something to a high standard as soon as I can.

What would your ideal first role in the industry be?

I would love to start off as an Environment Artist in any size production house, as it is the specialism I have the most passion for. It allows me to create assets, to set dress the scene and to tell a story. This role would allow me to strengthen my skills in 3D modelling, storytelling and texture creation if needed. It would also allow me to be exposed to new and exciting challenges, that would enhance my learning and lead to amazing creations.

What's an achievement from the past 3 years that you're proud of?

The achievement I am most proud of is the fact that I have gone through health problems and an injury, but I persevered. I don’t give up. I have adapted to living in this country after moving from the other side of the world. I have adapted to the UK school system and all the changes that brings. I have adapted to Escape’s unique 9 hour class schedule that was initially challenging compared to previous education I was used to. Throughout it all, I have tried to make the most out of every minute of learning I was a part of.
