My name is Benedi Difika and I am a 3rd year games art student at Escape Studios. I specialize in 3D Environments and 3D Prop Design. My passion is being able to create and bring to life environments from my imagination into a real scene that I can explore. A career that I would like to start would be a 3D environment artist. I do not have a preference for what games studios that I go into.

What was your inspiration for pursuing a career in Game Art?

My inspiration for pursuing a career in Games Art stems from the joy of creating my own environments. This field allows me to express my creativity, offering the flexibility to be adventurous and innovative with my designs.

What hobbies do you have?

Football - I enjoy playing football because it's a great source of exercise and an excellent way to meet new people and connect with them. Playing in front of fans is a thrilling experience, and interacting with them throughout the matches adds an exciting and dynamic element to the game. Coaching - Alongside my other hobbies, I really enjoy being a football coach. I have a strong passion for teaching people how to play football and take great satisfaction in seeing them grow and develop their skills. Gaming - I have a strong interest in gaming as well. It's a great way for me to disconnect and relax during my free time, providing both entertainment and a mental break.

How would your peers describe you in 3 words?

Sporty, Solutionist, Persistent

Do you have any industry experience? If so, please give a concise explanation of the experience.

I do not currently have any industry experience; however, I have had the opportunity to work closely with industry professionals. They have provided valuable critiques and extensive feedback on my work, helping me to continually improve my skills and expand my knowledge. Additionally, I have attended meetings with industry experts and participated in Game Jams, which have tested my ability to create complex, engaging games within tight deadlines. These experiences have been instrumental in my development and have prepared me for a career in the games industry.

How would you describe your contribution to your group project?

In our final group project, I adapted my role as needed throughout different stages. Initially, I participated in researching diverse ideas and level designs for our game, exploring settings like floating islands, festivals and villas.  As we settled on a stylised desert theme, I expanded my contributions. I focused on designing textures for the environment, particularly rocks and mountains. Creating 6 distinct rock textures and 1 grass texture to add depth to our desert landscape. Moving forward, I shifted to creating props for the scene. Starting with a treasure chest, I modelled multiple designs, refining them until selecting the best one. Using ZBrush, I sculpted and textured the chosen design. I also modelled a hitching post, crates, and a water trough to further enrich the environment.

What lessons did you learn from undertaking your project that you'll take with you into your career?

One lesson that I learned was to ask for more advice and criticism from my peers and my teachers. This allows me to get the most possible feedback and then allows me to take on and improve my projects to the best standard.

What would your ideal first role in the industry be?

My ideal first job in the gaming industry would be as a 3D prop artist. It's a perfect starting point where I can focus on creating small assets for game scenes, allowing me to learn and develop my skills. Another option I'm considering is game testing, which would give me a chance to understand game design better and learn about bug fixing. Both roles seem like great opportunities for me to begin my career in gaming.

What's an achievement from the past 3 years that you're proud of?

One achievement that I am proud of is completing my first big group project. This took a lot of determination and drive to work through all the struggles. It took a great commitment from everyone in the group which led to us eventually developing a really great project that we are all really proud of.
