What was your inspiration for pursuing a career in Game Art?
My fascination with digital art stems from its boundless potential for creativity and expression. However, what truly captivates me about games is their immersive nature and ability to transport players to fantastical worlds filled with adventure and wonder. The dynamic interplay between visual artistry and interactive storytelling in games fuels my passion and continually inspires me to explore new realms of creativity within the gaming industry.
What hobbies do you have?
When away from the screen, I enjoy spending time outdoors, working out, experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen, or engaging in a game of chess. I find these activities offer mental stimulation and creative expression as well as providing balance to my overall well-being.
How would your peers describe you in 3 words?
Kind, Driven, Energetic
Do you have any industry experience? If so, please give a concise explanation of the experience.
Although I haven't directly worked in the gaming industry, I successfully completed a week-long internship at Contented, a motion design company. Moreover, I've gained substantial experience through freelance commission-based projects. These opportunities have equipped me with valuable skills transferable to the gaming industry, including collaboration with higher management and meeting tight deadlines.
How would you describe your contribution to your group project?
I was the Art Director for 'Echoes of the Samurai'. It was my responsibility to ensure a clear understanding of the art style among my team members and to ensure that we all worked towards a common goal. Additionally, In the role of Environment Artist, I focused on the temple, where I built the modular kit using Blender. I challenged myself and used Geo nodes to create a procedural step and roof generator. I also worked on the interactive elements of the drawing book and the shrine.
What lessons did you learn from undertaking your project that you'll take with you into your career?
A lesson I've learned is the importance of embracing criticism and self-reflection and I've developed a better eye for seeing ways of enhancing my projects. I've also learned to be constantly seeking ways to elevate the quality of my work, through feedback and self-criticism.
What would your ideal first role in the industry be?
I aspire to kickstart my career at a game development studio, ideally contributing to the creation of a AAA title as part of a collaborative team. This opportunity not only promises invaluable insights into industry operations but also serves as a standout addition to my portfolio.
What's an achievement from the past 3 years that you're proud of?
I'm proudest of my third-year specialisation project, where I created an environment in an art style that was new for me. I was delighted with its outcome. Moreover, I was recognised as "One to Watch" in the Grads in Games search, which was a significant honour.
