I am a weapons and prop artist. I grew up enthralled in games and drawing, which naturally transitioned into my interest in game art. I took a particular interest in modelling weapons, as I enjoyed how challenging it is and the level of detail that goes into creating them. Career-wise, I would love to work in a studio where I can develop my weapons and prop modelling skills to a professional standard.

What was your inspiration for pursuing a career in Game Art?

Years ago, I saw a video on the development of games and was intrigued. This led me to independently research the industry and increased my fascination with game art.

What hobbies do you have?

I enjoy painting and drawing as I find it relaxes and distresses me while also improving my creativity. I have been drawing for many years, so I like to use it as an opportunity to keep my skills sharp. I also enjoy photography, I like having many creative outlets. I'm quite fond of reading and have a particular interest in genres such as fantasy, horror, and mythology. I like playing video games, as they are not only entertaining but also inspires me in my own work.

How would your peers describe you in 3 words?

Hard-Working, Focused, Creative

Do you have any industry experience? If so, please give a concise explanation of the experience.

I haven't had any industry experience yet, but have had several talks with industry professionals from large and small studios. This has helped me develop an understanding of how to approach them and what is to be expected when working in either. I have also had many lectures on the games industry and find that I have substantial knowledge of it that will be useful once I enter the industry.

How would you describe your contribution to your group project?

My role in 'The Last Shanty' was Prop Artist. As a group, we decided that we would follow the style of Wayfinder, a very stylized game. At the beginning of the project, I was tasked with creating a benchmark asset that would set the standard that all props should follow. As one of the main Prop Artists, I contributed a significant amount of props to the project as well as helping others with theirs.

What lessons did you learn from undertaking your project that you'll take with you into your career?

A lesson I'll take with me is how to manage a large workload and tight deadlines without getting overwhelmed. This has taught me to be flexible with my time to accommodate unexpected extra work. Another lesson I'll definitely utilise is having healthy communication within my team, updating my progress, and receiving constant feedback on the work, which helps maintain a high standard throughout the team.

What would your ideal first role in the industry be?

I am proud of my overall progress over the past three years. At the beginning of university, I struggled with modelling and constantly sought assistance from others. I found things hard to grasp and had a hard time troubleshooting on my own. Now I am much more confident in modelling and maintaining a healthy amount of feedback within my group and in my work. I feel the quality and my approach to work overall has significantly improved.
