What was your inspiration for pursuing a career in Game Art?
I always knew I wanted to do something within entertainment design. The games industry enables artists to work on avant garde and exciting new ideas, whilst also centring around a collaborative and thriving community, where artists and creatives alike bond to create something amazing for the world to see.
What hobbies do you have?
I enjoy hiking as its a great way to explore new and interesting locations as well as refuel whilst finding exciting new and references for future projects. I also have a fascination with indie horror projects (ARG's) as they always have a unique twist to the art of horror filled with new and original concepts , driven by passion and not restricted by any other needs. I also have an affinity for drawing as I love studying concepts such as experimental anatomy and form.
How would your peers describe you in 3 words?
Driven, Passionate, Relaible
Do you have any industry experience? If so, please give a concise explanation of the experience.
I have no direct experience within the industry however, I have worked and am currently working in a team, creating personal projects that are linked to my role.
I have also partaken in competitions, such as GradsinGames, which featured a brief that was developed by industry professionals, where I managed to place as a finalist, proving that I have the necessary skills and techniques to create industry ready projects.
How would you describe your contribution to your group project?
I held the role of Art Director last year and have been chosen to be the Lead Artist for both of the group projects this year. In all my projects, I have demonstrated resilience and ability in leading the project. Although, through my experience as Art Director, I realised I have more of an interest in creating assets than leading a group. I never shy away from taking responsibility in developing key sections of a project and being reliable in delivering high quality assets on schedule.
I do not hide in the side lines, I am always active in contributing and making an impact as a true team member.
What lessons did you learn from undertaking your project that you'll take with you into your career?
One lesson I will carry with me is to stay dynamic as projects always evolve and change. Being able to adapt and find new solutions to solve problems is key in developing any project.
What would your ideal first role in the industry be?
I would love to start as a Junior Environment Artist, as this will allow me to develop my skills further, whilst directly being linked to my specialism. I wish to understand what it is really like and truly integrate myself into being an artist in a games studio.
What's an achievement from the past 3 years that you're proud of?
This year, I was able to place as one of the finalists for 'Search For A Star' in the Environment category. It was really rewarding to be recognised as an artist. The contest was a great opportunity for me to create a project that was briefed by the industry and produce something that they recognised to be of a high standard. The opportunity also granted me to make valuable industry connections when I attended the awards ceremony last April.
