What was your inspiration for pursuing a career in Game Art?

Several years ago, at a gaming event, I encountered a stand run by Escape Studios where a student was demonstrating a ZBrush sculpt live. After a conversation with the student, it dawned on me that I could not only play games but also create them. From that moment on, pursuing game art became a clear and definite goal for my future.

What hobbies do you have?

In my free time, I enjoy playing a variety of games, including installments from the Elder Scrolls series or more relaxed adventures in a game like Minecraft. I also frequently indulge in watching anime and reading manga. I always keep an eye out for new seasonal shows or the latest chapters of my favourite series. Drawing is another significant hobby of mine. At least three times a week, I find myself sketching whatever comes to mind, and occasionally I set aside time to create a more polished piece.

How would your peers describe you in 3 words?

Persevering, Meticulous, Perceptive

Do you have any industry experience? If so, please give a concise explanation of the experience.

While I haven't had experience inside a studio, I have talked to various people from the industry about their experiences and interactions. Some examples are that I've talked to artists from 'Facepunch' and 'Electric Square' about how they joined the industry, as well as what they've learned whilst in the industry. Using their knowledge and advice, I hope to incorporate them into my own project environments and when trying to break into the industry as a Junior Artist.

How would you describe your contribution to your group project?

In our project, "The Deserter", I acted as the Lead Prop Artist. This was my first time taking up a guiding role on a group project, but I was confident in my abilities to perform and wasn't too nervous. In my position, I had the responsibility to oversee the quality of the props produced. It was my duty to ensure they reached the necessary quality standard I had set with my key asset. This meant checking others' prop assets met the standard for: texel density, roughness variation, wear and tear, colour, etc...

What lessons did you learn from undertaking your project that you'll take with you into your career?

One lesson I learned that I will carry into future collaborative projects is that you should always seek out feedback. When working on a project, you can often find yourself absorbed in your own creative world at home for multiple days on end. In cases like this, you may often forget to keep your team updated on the work you're doing, or the current stage you're at on a piece you're creating. When I have received feedback, from my skilled peers, it has often elevated my work to a state far above what it was originally due to their insight.

What would your ideal first role in the industry be?

I believe that my ideal entry position into the industry would be as a Junior Props Artist in a positive and collaborative environment. I possess the necessary skills to easily fulfill that role and have been praised for it on numerous occasions. Due to my ability to texture with precise attention to detail and my constantly improving sculpting skills, I am confident that I would be able to perform the responsibilities of a Junior Prop Artist with ease.

What's an achievement from the past 3 years that you're proud of?

Last year I had a project that made it into the Draft Select Award at The Rookies! That was a big wake-up call for me creatively, as it made me realise that with hard work and effort came the respect and acknowledgment of others.
