Hi, I'm Rohnak, an Animator and the Director of the 'Same-Day Delivery' short film. I've been telling silly little stories since I was very small, and I'm passionate about making more as often as I can! I love animation for its ability to impact other people, whether that's making them laugh, cry, or genuinely changing their worldview. I'm hoping to work as an 3D Animator now that I've graduated, and make lots more fun art forever.

What was your inspiration for pursuing a career in this industry?
My inspiration for a career in animation was definitely all the cartoons I watched growing up. I would watch Robotboy, Kid VS Kat, and SpongeBob until it drove my family crazy. I'd then make up my own episodes and draw the main scenes in a little crayon storyboard, before I even knew what a storyboard was! As I got older, I decided to pursue animation at the time because I wanted to make a movie with a wheelchair-user hero. It's still a dream of mine, but I also just fell in love with the process of animating. It's the best!
What hobbies do you have?
I'm tempted to say animation because I genuinely do it for fun too... But outside of that, I'm a big record collector and music is generally very important to me. If I'm not making art then I'm usually enjoying a record or watching monster/mech movies.
How would your peers describe you in 3 words?
Empathetic. Organized. Silly.
Do you have any industry experience? If so, please give a concise explanation of the experience.
I've carried out work with the National Youth Film Academy on short films in a production environment. I have also been a freelance graphic designer and editor for three years. I've attended lots of animation seminars and conferences such as In Motion, which have helped me build my network and strengthen my love for animation each time!
How would you describe your contribution to your group project?
I directed Same-Day Delivery, all the way from the first pitch to the final submission. I designed the characters, wrote the script, and made sure that we stuck to our stylistic intent: an offbeat and silly parody of stop-motion such as Postman Pat. As well as doing my own fair share of animation and concept art, I gave regular feedback on every part of the film to make sure it was technically solid and felt fun and chaotic all the way through.
What lessons did you learn from undertaking your project that you'll take with you into your career?
I learned a lot about the challenges and differences of working in a smaller team - we were just six people! As well as tasks taking longer, we each had to wear a lot of hats and be involved in a lot of different areas simultaneously. This lead to a unique and staggered production, which we had to accommodate. It highlighted the importance of tailoring your production plan to your team.
What would your ideal first role in the industry be?
My ideal role is a Junior Animator, preferably in a well-established studio that can provide a consistent and clear set of expectations and requirements! In this early stage of my career, I'm really eager to prove that I can work to the standard expected of a professional animator, and receive advice on how to improve my craft.
What's an achievement from the past 3 years that you're proud of?
I'm proud of how I have expanded my network over the last year and gained more confidence in my communication and leadership ability. I feel more capable of expressing my ideas and more comfortable speaking my mind and discussing the pros and cons of creative decisions. I've come out of my shell and met some very cool artists.
